Supporting families that have been affected by adversity.
2015: Friday March 13th, will be etched into the memories of villagers throughout the entire archipelago of Vanuatu after category 5 Cyclone Pam ravaged the 83 islands and lashed the landscape with 250kph+ winds and destructive rain.
Many islands were affected including Efate,’ home of the nation’s capital, Port Vila as were many villages including Epule’ Village, based beside the Epule’ River in a remote area of North Efate’.
Fundraising has been undertaken in the past, along with Australian sporting clubs visiting the schools and villages in Vanuatu. Avalon Soccer Club, based in Sydney, is one club that annually organises soccer teams to visit the local schools on Efate Island. Avalon players participate in playing a game of soccer and also distribute sporting gear and equipment to the local villages.
2017: Australian resident Larry Budd (whose family is from the island of Tanna), introduced Good4Global Limited to the projects he has undertaken in the Pacific Islands. Larry has 100 sewing machines he would like to distribute to the villages on Efate. Contact was made with Stuart Friend (Air Vanuatu Pilot) who introduced Good4Global Ltd to the SHaRM Foundation Community Projects under the co-ordination of Steph Neilson, founding member. After rebuilding some of the schools in the north of Efate, SHaRM Foundation indicated that the sewing machines would be ideal for the mamas (sewing groups) who have undertaken training courses at the local schools.
The current Re-build Vanuatu Community Project builds upon past friendships and initiatives. Working together, sharing the resources and expertise will underpin the success of the community-based programs being set up for the villages of Efate.
